Romy McCarthy joined Ziegler in 1994, specializing in healthcare and senior living finance. Since joining Ziegler, Romy has focused on creating innovative capital access models for many different types of healthcare providers including community hospitals, regional healthcare systems, physician groups, clinics, managed care organizations and senior living communities. Prior to joining Ziegler, she worked for a large regional commercial bank focusing on healthcare and other non-profit borrowers.

She is well-respected for her technical and analytical skills and has participated in more than 75 financings totaling almost $2.8 billion in par value for healthcare and senior living providers. She has experience in executing challenging transactions, notably participating in a $145 million issue to finance the acquisition of two hospitals to achieve a market dominant system by refunding six obligations and financing the balance of the purchase price through a combination of tax-exempt and taxable fixed income securities. Within the senior living sector, her areas of expertise include the financing of start-up projects, campus repositionings, and major expansions. Following the 2008 financial market meltdown, she completed a notable expansion project for Saint John’s Communities (Milwaukee, WI) using an innovative financing structure that was awarded the distinction of Midwest Deal of the Year by The Bond Buyer. 

Her years of hospital and health system finance experience brings a unique perspective to senior living providers seeking to develop post-acute strategies to respond to health care reform and payment changes. She has also been instrumental in developing unique financing alternatives for providers with constrained debt capacity. Romy is based in our Milwaukee office and is responsible for clients in the Midwest region, including Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Romy earned a B.S. in business administration with an emphasis in finance from Carroll University, Waukesha, Wisconsin. She received an M.B.A. with an emphasis in finance from Marquette University. Romy is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
