03/5/2007 On March 5, 2007, the California Supreme Court reversed decisions from two lower California courts that had denied the right of California bond issuers to issue tax-exempt bonds for "pervasively sectarian" schools. In its 4-3 decision in California Statewide Communities Development Authority v. All Persons Interested in the Matter of the Validity of a Purchase Agreement (CSCDA), the California Supreme Court changed the focus on determining a school's eligibility for tax-exempt financing from the religious character of the school to the substance of the education provided by the school. - Church Financing Trends Update
