Ms. Schmitz is the Head of Principal Investing and Fund Management at Ziegler and the Chief Administrative Officer of the Ziegler Link•age Funds, a venture capital fund family with an investment policy designed to support innovation, collaboration and growth among entrepreneurs and senior living and healthcare providers.
With over 10 years of operating and investing experience, she oversees both operations, and development and execution of the Ziegler Link•age Fund’s strategic value proposition. She also manages the funds’ investment pipeline and leads investment execution, including holding investment committee seats in four venture funds representing, in aggregate, over $150mm in commitments. As a strategic investor, Ms. Schmitz takes an active role with many of the companies in which the Ziegler Link•age Funds have invested, including holding seats on four portfolio company Boards of Directors, Smartcare Software, Cosan, LifeSite, and Embodied Labs.
Ms. Schmitz has a strong foundation in US GAAP, internal controls, and mergers and acquisitions through her experience working in the Audit and Transaction Advisory practices of Grant Thornton. She earned a BBA in accounting and Masters of Accountancy from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, is a Wisconsin Certified Public Accountant and maintains Series 7 and 24 securities licenses.
Eitan Machover was most recently a consultant with GE and has held various positions with GE, including seven years with GE healthcare as general manager of Integration and Business Development as well as a number of positions within the GE Commercial Services Division. He also served as the national executive for General Electric in Israel, where he was generally responsible for GE’s overall operations and growth in Israel. Eithan has held a number of international business development positions with a focus on third party service and technology driven acquisitions.
Dr. Blumenfeld retired from GE Healthcare in 2002, having been with GE for over 34 years, and finished his career as a Managing Director of GE Medical Systems in Israel. Dr. Blumenfeld has considerable experience in developing and commercializing large scale diagnostic imaging systems, as well as new image guided equipment designed to provide non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures. Among other accomplishments, Dr. Blumenfeld was one of the managers responsible for developing GE’s computed tomography (“CT”) and magnetic resonance imaging (“MRI”) product lines, each of which now have annual sales over $1 billion. Dr. Blumenfeld serves on a number of academic boards as well as the board of some medical device companies.
Samual Cubac most recently worked as a vice president of GE Equity, where he managed the Tel Aviv, Israel office of GE Equity and assisted in managing GE’s limited partnership investment in ABS Giza GE Capital Fund II as well as Giza GE Venture Fund III. Both of these funds were global venture capital funds that invested in technology companies. Prior to GE, Samual was the senior vice president of AIG’s leasing & Equipment Financing Group, and prior to that was the CFO of AI Credit Corporation, AIG’s Finance subsidiary. In these positions, he managed over 100 professionals and a portfolio of $700 million of assets.
Michael Schmidt joined Ziegler in 2006. His primary responsibilities include credit oversight of most investment banking underwritings of the firm. He serves as the chair of the firm’s Credit and Risk Committee which reviews firm underwritings as well as direct investment of firm capital. He also provides financial and economic forecasting related to Ziegler’s strategic growth plans. Previously, he worked as an analyst supporting Ziegler’s Credit Surveillance team, providing senior living and healthcare research services to external institutional investor clients and to various internal Ziegler practice lines.
Prior to joining Ziegler, Michael was an internal auditor for Kohler Company, a privately owned manufacturing company based in Kohler, Wisconsin. During his time at Kohler Company, he was responsible for performing financial and operational audits of all divisions of the company.
Michael earned a B.S. (magna cum laude) in finance and economics and a minor in criminology and law studies from Marquette University. He holds Series 7 and 66 licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
